Petrospec Engineering is currently looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead a small but growing dynamic E & I group. The Successful candidate will work closely with our lead Electrician to design and build medium voltage electrical control skids to control Downhole Electric Heaters for our Hot-Tube™ product line. The successful candidate will also be responsible for PLC programming/maintenance and will eventually become the Product Line Specialist for Hot-Tube™.
As the Electrical Engineer, you will be working independently at first, collaborating with other engineers to design and develop electrical control skids for use in thermal oil recovery applications. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of PLC programs, as well as implementation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems.
You may join other members of the account team providing support and guidance with producing documents such as cost estimates, technical drawings, calculation worksheets, and proposals. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: CAD, technical expertise, job quoting, equipment design, project management, and safety and loss management.

- Design and develop medium voltage electrical control skids for Downhole Electric Heaters used in thermal oil recovery applications based on existing designs of previous projects.
- Implement and maintain PLC programs and other control system software.
- Test, commission, and troubleshoot control systems.
- Provide technical support and guidance to field service personnel and customers.
- Prepare technical proposals and commercial estimates. Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to customers as needed.
- Assist in managing all aspects of executing awarded projects including document review, selecting appropriate technologies, product design, component procurement, QA/QC compliancy, and coordinating manufacturing or packaging with manufacturing staff.
- Participate in efforts towards continuous improvement of our products and services in the areas of safety, cost efficiency, and technical capability.
- Assist in the execution of the strategic business development plan for meeting targets and building new business.
- Providing input and oversight to the electrical and automation aspects of our Sustainable Technologies Portfolio
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards and demonstrate sound practice in all engineering activities in accordance with internal procedures and APEGA standards.
- Work collaboratively with other engineers and departments to ensure project success.
- Train and mentor junior staff as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized accredited university.
- 10 plus years of experience required.
- P.Eng. APEGA member in good standing or eligible for registration with APEGA with the ability to authenticate your own electrical design PWPs.
- Experience in designing and building medium voltage electrical control packages.
· Proficiency in PLC programming, preferably with Schneider PLCs preferred.
· Proficiency in the any PLC language, Python, JavaScript, Java considered an asset.
- Experience with electrical system design, sizing and specification of equipment, and power systems analysis.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Familiarity with oil field (particularly thermal oilwell or SAGD operations), facility, pipeline or construction industries considered an asset.
· Understanding of interdisciplinary engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, computer, petroleum, process) considered an asset.
· Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable independently working with customers and vendors in meetings, calls, and e-mails.
· Service oriented, willing to seek creative technical and logistical solutions for customers to meet their timelines.
· Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines to meet customer expectations.
