National Grid is hiring a Lead Analyst for Billing Operations Department in Syracuse, NY.

National Grid bills over 6 million accounts per month in its customer billing system, CSS (Customer/1). The Billing Operations Department monitors and updates the customer billing system; ensuring that the bills are accurate and implementing new billing programs. National Grid is seeking a Lead Analyst to support, analyze, and report on the existing billing programs, as well as design, test, and implement new billing system enhancements. Position requires existing knowledge of National Grid’s billing system (CSS, Customer/1), the underlaying data model, and ability to write SQL to query and update the database.
- Design and develop new billing charges and rates into the National Grid billing system, as mandated by the Public Service Commission. Requires knowledge of the billing system’s tariff modelling tables and billing formulas.
- Analyze technical issues with accounts in the customer billing system. Identify root cause and create a ticket for IT with detailed analysis and recommended fix. Create queries (SQL) to find all impacted accts and identify short-term fix or data repairs until underlying code issue is fixed.
- Create adhoc queries on the billing system database (DB2/SQL) to order to extract reporting data, analyze data, or update/insert data records
- Perform bill verifications to ensure the accuracy of the generated bills. Report and analyze any deviations.
- Write requirement documents for billing system enhancements, based on interview the end users and regulatory staff to understand the business needs.
- Create test plans for billing system enhancements. Execute the test plan, documenting the test results. Document and prioritize any defects. Track and report on progress of testing.
- Create an implementation plan to deploy new IT solutions by identifying impacted business units, creating process flows, and identifying required training. Monitor the implementation and escalate any issues.
- Create procedure documents on newly developed programs for the billing system.
- Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better.
Employees are expected to have the knowledge & experience listed below.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, data analytics, computer science or finance; or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of National Grid’s billing system, CSS (Customer/1) required.
- Experience and proficiency in writing SQL against the CSS (Customer/1) database is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially in Excel and Microsoft Access.
- Able to manage one’s own work, especially when having multiple tasks and duties.
- Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies, and business systems preferred, but not required.
