Coterra is hiring a Land Manager in Tulsa, Oklahoma JOB SUMMARY
As the
Land Manager for Coterra,you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all surface and subsurface land functions, ensuring alignment with drilling, completions, and production activities. You will be responsible for directing lease acquisition, title and curative work, surface use negotiations, and regulatory compliance to support ongoing operations and long-term development. The Land Manager will collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners, and community representatives to optimize land assets, minimize operational risk, and maximize value creation. This position is located in our Tulsa, Oklahoma office and will report to the Anadarko Business Unit General Manager.
- Operational Oversight
: Lead all surface and subsurface land activities to support drilling schedules, wellsite preparation, infrastructure development, and production operations
- Lease & Title Management
: Direct lease acquisition, title review, and curative strategies to ensure drill-ready acreage and clear chain of title
- Surface Use & Access
: Negotiate and manage surface use agreements, rights-of-way, easements, and damage settlements to secure timely access for drilling, completions, and facilities
- Subsurface Rights
: Manage mineral lease negotiations, pooling/unit agreements, and joint operating agreements to optimize development plans
- Regulatory & Compliance
: Coordinate with legal, environmental, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with BLM, BIA, state, and federal requirements across surface and subsurface activities
- Stakeholder Engagement
: Serve as the company representative in discussions with landowners, agencies, communities, and industry associations to build and maintain strong relationships
- Team Leadership
: Supervise and mentor land staff and contractors, providing direction on priorities, operational problem-solving, and professional development
- Collaboration & Integration
: Partner with Operations, Geology, Drilling, Completions, and Facilities to align land strategies with technical and business objectives
- Data & Records Management
: Oversee lease record systems and land databases to maintain accuracy, data integrity, and operational readiness
- Budget & Cost Control
: Develop and manage land budgets and forecasts, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for both surface and subsurface initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in lease negotiation, title clearance, surface use agreements, and joint operating agreements
- Strong understanding of oil and gas law, regulatory frameworks, permitting processes, and operational land issues
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills with a proven ability to work cross-functionally
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with operational problem-solving capability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and land management systems- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Business, Law, or related field required
- Certified Professional Landman (CPL) or law degree preferred
- 10+ years of land experience with a blend of surface and subsurface responsibilities, including at least 3 years in a leadership role
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. Incumbents must be able to perform work that includes typing, sitting, and standing. Occasional visits to operations worksites may require personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, flame-resistant clothing). Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours on short notice.
