Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess a minimum of a two-year diploma in Chemical Technology or a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from a recognized institution
- 2 or more years of experience in an industrial quality control laboratory, Oil Sands experience is preferred
- Knowledge of relevant ASTM, UOP, CGSB or other standard methods of analysis
- Strong organizational and multi tasking skills
- Good communication and collaboration
- Strong safety focus and work practices
- Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Knowledge on installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Experience in a LIMS environment would be an asset
- Understanding of laboratory QA/QC practices, specifically ISO17025
- Conduct testing and sample analysis as per schedule and on demand to support in the safe and reliable operation.
- Conduct routine maintenance, calibrations and any other activities to ensure the instruments are all operational and in control
- Ensure data is reported in a timely and appropriate manner
- Sign the work permit as area authority, third party authorizer, equipment owner for safe work permit within designated area of building #146
- Sample pick-up which requires driving through the plant
- Act as facilities contact in off hours
- Engage in training activities
- Participate to the shift meeting, safety meeting, team meeting
- Design fire wardens for the lab
- Work in accordance with all legislations, policies, standards and procedures and practices that apply to the Syncrude Laboratory
- You will work out of our Syncrude Mildred Lake location in Fort McMurray, Alberta
- This is a safety sensitive position
- The shift schedule is a 3 days, 3 nights on, 6 days off rotation
- The environment requires the use of PPE; safety boots, safety glasses, respiratory equipment, safety gloves, hearing protection, and specialized safety equipment
