The Washington Aqueduct is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Physical Science) who is skilled and self-motivated with an established ability to perform scheduled work assignments within deadlines. You will have the opportunity to serve as part of a sample management team and perform drinking water and NPDES sample collections, manage samples with a modern LIMS, perform multiple methods in a wet chemistry laboratory, as well as calibrate and QC check on-line instrumentation in full accordance with EPA quality control standards and regulatory requirements. All work will be performed per laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan safety guidelines. You will serve as part of a team dedicated to timely and accurate customer and process control sample management. You will maintain and whenever possible, enhance current laboratory standards, operating procedures and laboratory work environment. Under routine guidance, this position is responsible for performing essential work required to help maintain full laboratory certification and accreditations.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level in the Federal Service, which includes: (1) Performing laboratory analyses and (2) Performing field testing, collecting laboratory and field samples.
Applicants must, at a minimum, hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, or another field of science from an accredited institution.
The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years of laboratory sampling experience, fluency with laboratory standard operating procedures, experience working with LIMS, and experience performing typical Wet Chemistry laboratory methods.
1. Incumbent must wear a laboratory coat and safety glasses while performing analyses and utilize other personal protective equipment as required by the nature of the task being performed.
2. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
3. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
4. In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as “Key” and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
5. This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
