Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
The Electrical Engineering Intern will work with the Calpine Electrical Engineering Team and will be given hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems in large scale power generation facilities.
The Electrical Engineer Intern will be applying electrical theory and related knowledge in support of the specification, inspection, testing and maintenance of electrical equipment such as large power transformers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear and motors.
The intern will gain experience with modern digital protection relaying schemes including developing protection settings and using software tools to analyze event records.
- Minimum qualifications include completion of sophomore year and at least 60 credit hours towards bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably electrical engineering from an accredited university or college.
- In good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future.
- Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Programing skills i.e. Visual Basic or Python, is preferred
- Strong Excel skills (Vlookup, Sumifs, Pivot Tables, Macros)
- Demonstrated modeling aptitude creating complex Excel models.
- Knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the power or utility sector, is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good problem solving and analytical ability
- Good organization skills and attention to details are essential
- Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others in a dynamic environment.
- Must be able to self-start and manage multiple simultaneous tasks and priorities.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
