Wood is currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Designer to join our Canadian Operations team.
Within this role you will be providing engineering support through the application of extensive knowledge of electrical engineering and instrumentation design principles. You will practice in the performance of all electrical, Instrumentation and Control discipline design work at our client premises in Hamilton (ON). - Plans and prioritizes work to meet client requirements and align with organizational goals
- Provide engineering design expertise to deliver work scopes in line with company policies and procedures
- Generate electrical and I&C design drawings in AutoCAD
- Perform design work under limited supervision of senior designer or engineer
- Responsible to perform connection wiring diagrams, cable schedule, cable selection and sizing, termination schedule
- Maintain estimates and follow project schedules as required
- Drive elimination of technical incidents through robust controls, incident reviews and embedding lessons learned in engineering design procedures
- Assist with continuous improvement of design systems, and tools required by the discipline to deliver cost effective and competitive design execution
- Maintain and assist in identifying scope and schedule changes, in accordance with the Change Control Process
- Conduct site visits and other related tasks such as participating in site meetings, recording notes and observations, as well as site inspection reports
- Ensure that designs comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures, along with local plant requirements and standards
- Review and check work output of discipline assigned personnel, as required
- Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental Regulations are followed methodically

- Technical diploma from a post-secondary institution or higher
- 5+ years of experience in the Power Utility, Mining, and Industrial sectors- Experience with Renewable Energy sectors is considered as an asset
- Experience with AutoCAD and 3D Modelling packages such as Revit and Aveva E3D
- Solid knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, Canadian electric utility industry practices, CSA Standards and Local Codes
- Electrical and I&C design in AutoCAD including generation of single line diagrams, motor schematics, power, lighting and cable tray layouts, P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, I/O lists, and bill of material (BOM)
- Perform design under limited supervision from the project engineer or manager
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills
- Comfortable with site visits, as well as collaborating and communicating with construction and maintenance crew, plant operators, and the client
- Resourceful team player with self-starter aptitude
- Current authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
