The Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel serves as the lead legal advisor and subject matter expert on IP-related matters for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH). The IP Counsel will lead progressive strategies for developing and managing high quality IP assets worldwide that safeguard the nuclear businesses’ R&D investments in a range of technologies, including but not limited to advanced reactors and advanced nuclear fuels. The IP Counsel’s scope includes but is not limited to commercial contracting, licensing, patent portfolio management, IP and proprietary information protection, and advisory work in connection with business development opportunities.
- Provide strategic advice, oversight and leadership in the management of the intellectual property (IP) and proprietary information of GVH and its affiliated global nuclear energy businesses.
- Maintain and drive a pipeline of opportunities to monetize GVH’s IP, including by directing the development of commercially relevant IP assets that have value to the industries in which GVH competes.
- Advise and partner with GVH’s patent evaluation board (PEB) in making strategic decisions on allocating capital for maximizing the strengths of GVH’s IP portfolio.
- Lead and participate in patent preparation and prosecution activities, and oversee related activities carried out by outside patent counsel.
- Partner with GVH Commercial Counsel, Commercial Operations, Sourcing, and Business Development teams to advise on, draft and negotiate contractual provisions governing IP rights and obligations.
- Coordinate with other functions, including but not limited to Human Resources, Business Development, Sales, Commercial Operations and Sourcing to ensure the proper utilization and enforcement of Proprietary Information Agreements.
- Partner with Engineering, project managers and key information protection functions, including e.g., international trade and export control (ITC/EC) and information management and security (IM/IS), to develop technology control plans and otherwise ensure that proper IP controls.
- Counsel the business on evolving developments in global intellectual property and information protection law; and develop or revise intellectual property and information protection policies, procedures, and processes to implement same.
- Prepare and conduct IP-related training and communication plans, as may be needed to enable understanding and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Proactively identify, analyze and mitigate IP-related compliance risks; and, in coordination with business leaders, develop and execute risk mitigation plans.
- Help resolve potential IP compliance issues, as they may arise; and, in coordination with business leaders, develop and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as in-house advisor to the General Counsel and/or Litigation Counsel, as appropriate, in connection with IP-related commercial disputes or other claims.
- Manage overall legal budget for IP matters, including all outside counsel spend.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and have an active (state or D.C.) bar membership in good standing
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in patent portfolio development and strategy
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial contracting involving IP rights
- Working knowledge of governing IP statutes, regulations, and standards and of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) practices and procedures
- Fluent in English

The base pay range for this position is $150,000 to $225,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on Friday, September 19th.
The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
