Brief Description
The
Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technicianis responsible for maintaining and operating power plant instrumentation and electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance. This role supports both maintenance and operations teams, performing diagnostics, calibrations, and system monitoring in accordance with plant procedures and regulatory standards.
Dartmouth Power
is a nominal
97 MWfacility located in
Dartmouth, MA, fueled by
natural gas and ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD). The plant consists of one
GE 6B gas turbineoperating in combined cycle with an
ABB VAX steam turbine, and one
simple cycle LM2500gas turbine. The I/E Technician–Operator plays a critical role in supporting the operation and maintenance of these systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plant field instrumentation, control systems, and electrical components.
- Establish and maintain a precise calibration schedule for all instrumentation, including transmitters, control valves, and analyzers.
- Serve as the primary technician for instrumentation and control systems, including DCS, gas and steam turbine controls, and associated auxiliary systems.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of plant logic, control schemes, and system interdependence.
- Ensure Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) remain in full compliance through routine calibration, maintenance, and accurate recordkeeping.
- Assist in the operation of the combined-cycle plant, including coordination with the receiving electric utility to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable power generation.
- Support plant operations during startups, shutdowns, and transitions, including operation of turbines, HRSGs, and auxiliary equipment per established procedures.
- Respond to dispatch orders from electrical and fuel suppliers, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
- Perform and document electrical testing in accordance with NERC PRC-005 standards.
- Maintain and review plant logs, operational records, and performance data using computerized monitoring systems and manual instrumentation.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve process anomalies and equipment malfunctions within technical capabilities.
- Support the training and development of Assistant Plant Operators and new hires.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and trucks; direct unloading of off-hour deliveries (Massachusetts Hoisting License Class 1C required or obtainable).
- Monitor plant security systems and respond to alerts or anomalies.
- Ensure accurate reporting of defective equipment and maintain organized maintenance documentation.
- Enforce and monitor compliance with safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Participate in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities using the plant’s CMMS platform.
- Provide technical support for plant and control network systems, including coordination with offsite IT vendors.
- Minimum 5 years in power plant operations or maintenance.
- Experience with digital and analog control systems.
- Ability to read and update P&IDs, one-line diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working independently and in high-pressure environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights (up to 170 ft).
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency call-ins.
- Massachusetts Second Class Fireman License (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
- MA Journeyman Electrical License preferred.
- ISA CCST Certification desired.
- MA Hoisting License Class 1C (or ability to obtain).

Summary
Applicants must possess a
