POSITION SUMMARY
Marathon Petroleum Company's Illinois Refining Division is currently looking for a full-time Inspection Manager within the Inspection Department. This position would be responsible for managing Inspection programs, the National Board Inspection Code Owner User Inspection Organization (OUIO), inspection procedures and supervising the 5 Area Inspectors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:* Within their plant or area(s) of responsibility, oversees inspection planning and execution of all fixed equipment and piping in compliance with jurisdictional requirements, MPC practices and procedures, and industry standards.
•Oversees work scope development of inspection activities for turnarounds (TARs)
•Oversees selection of contract inspection companies.
•Manages the planning and execution of work of contract inspection companies.
•Oversees use of inspection data management system (Site uses GE APM).
•Supervises quality assurance for new fixed equipment and piping installations, replacements, fabrication, and repairs including the development of an inspection plan, and review of welding procedures and metallurgical design.
•Approves all welding and post weld heat treatment that is performed on fixed equipment and piping. Confirms these processes comply with MPC procedures, practices, and industry standards.
•Supervises the activities of company inspectors; oversees the activities of contract inspectors.
•Supervises comprehensive studies on corrosion and erosion rates to determine damage mechanisms and root causes. Reports on excessive conditions and suggests remedial action to protect equipment and materials.
•Supervises the development, implementation, and compliance with the Mechanical Integrity sections of OSHA 1910.119-Process Safety Management for fixed equipment. Maintains the mechanical integrity program and inspection records for fixed equipment and piping.
•Oversees the development and implementation of special emphasis inspection programs, e.g., CUI, Sulfidation.
•Maintains the Site NBIC OUIO Program, which entails leading the yearly state audit by IL Chief Inspector and every 3-year audit through NBIC and maintains all required yearly boiler inspection paperwork required by the state.
•Supervises the 5 Area Inspectors and provides direction and feedback to manage their inspection tasks.
•Reviews and updates site Inspection practices (IPs) to meet corporate standards and American Petroleum Institute (API) Requirements.
•Assists Area Inspectors in development of inspection plans for shutdown and turnarounds.
•Ensures repair recommendations and/or Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) meet code and company requirements.
•Ensures inspection recommendations are prioritized and managed through completion.
•Ensures inspection and testing of new equipment complies with applicable codes and company standards.
•Supports timely completion of safety related programs, Management of Change (MOC) recommendations, toolbox meetings and yearly goals.
•Provides career development and performance input to direct reports.
•Serves as the Night Shift Inspection Lead Supervisor on TARs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum (Required) Qualifications* High School Diploma or GED.
•Minimum of 8 years of inspection, corrosion, materials or mechanical engineering experience in the refining industry or Petrochemical related industries.
•Must have a bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering Degree OR have an API 510 Pressure Vessel Certification
•Availability for a Monday-Thursday 10-hour shift schedule, on-call weekend rotations, and support for Turnaround and shutdowns as required.
•Valid Driver's License upon hire
•Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
•Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in mechanical, materials, or metallurgical engineering is highly desired.
•Prior leadership experience highly desired.
•Experience with Risk-Based Inspection highly desired.
•Current – NBIC IS commission AND NBIC R endorsement
•Current - API 570 Piping Inspection Certification
•Current – API 653 Tank Inspector Certification
•Current - AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
•API 571, API 936, or other API Certifications
•Experience with GE’s Asset Performance Management (APM)
•Excellent people skills to drive positive results to maintain and improve mechanical integrity related issues.
Skills* Good coordination skills between interdisciplinary functions (operations, inspection, engineering).
•Comfortable with leading and facilitating meetings.
•Able to communicate well with front line workers and multiple levels of leadership.
•Proficient with Microsoft: Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMs, OneNote.
