POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated tool designer for the design and build of class 101 and 102 molds for both MIM and plastic production. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate closely with our Engineering and tooling team to develop for build high quality tooling that produces dimensionally and aesthetically correct parts, while driving innovation reduced lead times in our tool building processes.
Key Responsibilities
•The Mold Designer will perform all mold design functions in an efficient productive manner.
•Ensure a smooth flow of information from Engineering to Tooling Department.
•All mold design work is performed accurately, efficiently and is completed on schedule.
•All designs are created with the philosophy of making a mold that will make the best quality part in production as possible while staying within the guidelines established by the mold quotation and or kick off form.
•The customer’s design is reviewed to determine if there are areas that can cause problems in manufacturing (DFM) i.e., heavy wall sections that will cause sinks, zero draft areas, not enough draft angle, thin sections, parting lines, ejector pins, gate location.
•Finished mold designs and modified surface files are loaded into the system and properly documented under ARC policies.
•Mold base, and mold design standards are properly implemented.
•All relevant job information is properly filed electronically per ARC procedure.
•A record of all changes and revisions is kept documenting the mold design process.
•Upon completion of a mold design, a bill of materials is created and given to the supervisor so all required components can purchase.
•The Tooling Supervisor and Project Manager are informed of all changes in approach, problems or mistakes in a timely manner.
•Coordinate Tool Design Concept and Review meetings, with Engineering and tooling team.
•All communications are handled in a manner that will promote teamwork on the job.
•Study technical publications to keep abreast of technological changes and advancements in the field of mold design and mold making.
•Maintain an attitude, which promotes teamwork, innovation, loyalty, resilience and Integrity.
Qualifications
•An understanding of ARC’s procedures that are related to Mold Design and build.
•Must have a working knowledge of all aspects of the injection molding process with an emphasis on mold making.
•Working understanding of CAD systems including solids, surfaces and wire frames.
•Understanding of Injection Mold Build processes.
•Basic computer skills, MS Office.
•Minimum of two years direct technical experience in a mold making environment.
•Ability to remain “composed” in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
•Adequate vision and dexterity to operate a computer for eight to nine hours periods.
•Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
•Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection when on the manufacturing floor.
•Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments and withstand exposure to noise levels associated with manufacturing machinery.
•Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize required training from OSHA and Company including but not limited to the following:
•Hazard Communication, Lock Out/Tag Out, First Aid and CPR (optional)
