Black Lion Products is a leading structural steel fabrication company, delivering high-quality steel components for large-scale projects across the United States. A critical part of our fabrication process is applying shop coat primer to protect steel materials before installation. We are seeking skilled and detail-oriented Painters to join our team, ensuring that all materials are properly prepped and coated to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Position Summary:
The Painter is responsible for performing and overseeing all aspects of shop coat primer application on structural steel. This includes material preparation to SP1, SP2, and SP3 standards, mixing and applying primer, and ensuring that all processes meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards. Painters must have a strong understanding of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), paint application techniques, and equipment setup and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
•Perform surface preparation of structural steel, including SP1 (solvent cleaning), SP2 (hand tool cleaning), and SP3 (power tool cleaning).
•Ensure proper paint prep before spraying, including cleaning and surface inspection.
•Mix materials accurately, following Material Data Sheets (MDS) and manufacturer instructions.
•Set up and operate spray equipment, including adjusting spray tips, patterns, and pressures.
•Apply shop coat primer evenly and to the required thickness, ensuring complete coverage.
•Inspect painted materials for quality assurance, addressing any defects or inconsistencies.
•Maintain and clean paint equipment, ensuring proper functioning and longevity.
•Adhere to all paint safety protocols, including proper ventilation, PPE use, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
•Keep accurate records of paint application and prep processes for each job.
•Assist with training new team members in paint preparation and application techniques.
Requirements:
•Knowledge of SP1, SP2, and SP3 material preparation standards.
•Experience with shop coat primer application on structural steel is preferred.
•Familiarity with Material Data Sheets (MDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
•Ability to properly mix and handle paint materials.
•Proficiency in setting up and using paint spray equipment, including adjusting spray patterns.
•Strong understanding of paint safety, including handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
•Attention to detail and a commitment to quality control.
•Ability to work in a team environment and independently when required.
