Reporting to the Maintenance Manager this role is based out of our Pickering facility, which houses both an aluminum casting and aluminum extrusion plant. The Millwright will install, inspect, adjust, and repair heavy manufacturing equipment, including hydraulic presses and metal smelters while adhering to company safety standards. With a focus on reducing unplanned downtimes, this role demands an individual who excels in diagnosing complex mechanical issues, prioritizing tasks effectively, and implementing efficient solutions in a collaborative environment.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures, analyze root causes, take corrective action and document work. Enhance operational efficiency with collaboration, technical support and continuous improvement.
- Perform routine maintenance work, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting mechanical systems to maintain equipment reliability.
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures and complete equipment repairs.
- Install, align, dismantle, and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, including pumps, fans, conveyors, furnaces, presses, and casting machines.
- Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes and jacks to position machinery and parts during installation, setup, and repair activities.
- Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect irregularities, investigate malfunctions, and prevent failures.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools, and welding equipment as needed.
- Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate or modify parts during maintenance or overhauls.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending and implementing system upgrades or process improvements.
- Responding to maintenance or breakdown calls on production equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting to prevent breakdowns.
- Identify opportunities to improve asset liability.
- Adhering to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
- Maintaining a clean and environmentally safe work area.
- Assess criticality and prioritize tasks to maximize equipment uptime and optimize operational output.
- Use lathes, grinders, and other machine tools to fabricate or modify parts during maintenance tasks.
- Provide mentoring to millwright apprentices.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy industrial equipment, such as hydraulic presses, heat ovens, conveyors, and casting machinery.
- Familiarity with aligning and calibrating machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- In-depth knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of components (e.g. pumps, cylinders).
- Proficiency in welding (e.g., MIG, TIG, arc) and basic fabrication and machining to repair or modify parts as needed (lathe, mill and grinder).
- Knowledge of lifting, rigging crane operation and safe workloads.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of diagnosing complex equipment issues and implementing effective repairs and recommend permanent solutions.

- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting on production equipment, including identifying and resolving issues with wiring, sensors, switches, and control panels to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.
- Additional certifications in heavy equipment maintenance or hydraulics are a strong asset.
- Five to eight years of related work experience, ideally in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding and adherence to safety standards and protocols in industrial settings.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft-based programs and maintenance programs.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment parts (50 lbs or more).
- Willingness to work continental shifts (12-hour rotating days and nights) and accept overtime opportunities when required.
