Job Description
General Objectives:
Reporting to the Industrial Hygiene Specialist, the Industrial Hygiene Technician will typically work four consecutive ten-hour shifts during the day shift which may include occasional weekends, holidays and night shifts, including on-call responsibilities. The Industrial Hygiene Technician is responsible for providing occupational safety and health guidance, training, testing, reporting, controls, and support to the departments and personnel at the Marigold Mine.
Key Areas Of Responsibilities & Duties
The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
•Development of sampling strategy for site
•Coordinate and perform IH sampling across site, and realization of other IH initiatives
•Assist in updating physical demands analyses and health risk assessments
•Sample shipment, data entry, statistical analysis, and reporting of samples
•Implementation of controls, with an emphasis on engineering controls
•Employee notification of sampling results
•Assist divisions with toolbox and other training sessions as directed
•Conduct new hire trainings as directed
•Maintain stock of IH sampling supplies and equipment calibration status
•Provide health sampling, noise sampling, and biological sampling as needed
•Monitor and audit effectiveness of controls in place for health exposures
•Maintain records related to occupational health
•Manage gas detection on site
•Participate in safety and health inspections including interacting with employees regarding general health and safety concerns
•Fulfil on-call responsibilities as required
•Act as a resource to site departments in fulfilling their safety responsibilities and assist other safety department personnel with site safety goals and responsibilities
•This role requires frequent interaction with department employees, supervision, and management to provide assistance, service, and support
•Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies
•Ability to provide strong leadership and act as an effective change agent
•Ability to interact with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution
•Performs additional duties as required
Required Skills
•Strong leadership skills
•Extensive skills using Microsoft programs
•Comfortable giving presentations and speaking to large groups
•Excellent communication and organizational skills
Required Experience
•Exposure to conducting Industrial Hygiene sampling for dust/silica, noise, metal fumes and mercury, preferred
•Ergonomic experience, preferred
•Work experience in industry (mining industry preferred)
•Experience performing audiometric testing, preferred; CAOHC certification
•Experience in emergency response, preferred
