The Industrial Controls Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the performance of automated equipment and control systems in a manufacturing or industrial setting. This role involves working with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and various control systems to ensure the smooth operation of production processes. The Technician will also play a key role in safety, upgrades, preventative maintenance, and process optimization to reduce downtime and improve equipment efficiency.
Responsibilities:
•Diagnose and repair control systems, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives).
•Perform programming, troubleshooting, and modifications of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) to support operations and process improvements.
•Maintain, calibrate, and repair electrical and electronic control systems, including sensors, instrumentation, relays, actuators, and motors.
•Support the implementation of control system upgrades or modifications, including hardware installation, wiring, and programming adjustments.
•Participate in or lead preventative maintenance activities on automated systems, ensuring the equipment operates at optimal performance.
•Monitor and collect system performance data to identify areas for improvement, process bottlenecks, or equipment failure trends.
•Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards, company policies, and relevant electrical and industry regulations (OSHA, NEC, etc.).
•Provide technical support and training to other maintenance personnel and operators on control system operations and troubleshooting.
•Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of changes to control systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and programming changes.
Required Qualifications:
•A strong knowledge of electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and instrumentation diagrams.
•Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLC systems, particularly with brands like Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Schneider.
•Familiarity with industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus is also important for effective system integration.
•Experience with electrical testing tools, including multimeters and oscilloscopes, is required, along with the ability to perform calibration of instrumentation and control devices to ensure optimal performance.
•Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex automation and electrical control system issues.
Education & Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, industrial automation, or a related field.
•1-2 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, controls, or equipment design. Additionally, an equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered acceptable.
