The Opportunity

As part of the Communications, Community Relations and Indigenous Relations team of the Burnaby Refinery, this role provides strategic communications services and conducts stakeholder engagement activities to help the Refinery in its ongoing dialogue with employees, local community, stakeholders, and local Indigenous Nations. This includes developing content for internal and external audiences and supporting special projects and events.

We are seeking a passionate communicator with strong writing, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to contribute to the team by writing engaging stories, assisting with events and campaigns, and supporting social media content. Lived experience or a strong understanding of Indigenous culture, history, and governance will be invaluable in this role, as you will support internal cultural awareness initiatives and external engagement strategies.

Responsibilities

Provide scheduling, administrative, and logistical support to the Communications and Indigenous Relations team.
Organize and analyze data, maintain systems, and produce routine reports, presentations, and briefing documents.
Research and write content for internal and external audiences, including articles, newsletters, key messages, and briefing notes.
Create and distribute engaging content for stakeholders/Rightsholders, including social media posts, intranet and web copy, photography, and videos to highlight milestones and achievements.
Assist in developing and implementing communication plans in collaboration with various business areas and subject matter experts.
Support internal and external engagement initiatives, including consultations with Indigenous communities, by preparing materials, taking notes, and tracking follow-ups.
Assist with planning, logistics, and material preparation for events, workshops, and social investment campaigns, including town hall meetings and Indigenous relations events.

Education

Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program (or completed at least one year of post-secondary education) in Communications, Indigenous Relations, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field. Other relevant majors will also be considered.

Requirements

Available for a 4-month term beginning in May 2025.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
Strong research and analyze skills.
Ability to build strong relationships, work collaboratively across teams, and support team efforts and timelines.
Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); graphic design and video editing skills are considered an asset.
Lived experience or deep knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and governance.
Previous administrative experience, including event planning, is an asset.
Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction setting is an asset.

We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous candidates (First Nation, Inuit, or Métis). We are committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment where everyone can thrive. If you are a member of one of these communities, we invite you to highlight this in your application. We value the unique perspectives you can bring to our team and look forward to hearing from you.

Humble. Hungry. Smart. Does this sound like you?

Do others describe you as being a down-to-earth achiever? Someone who thinks outside the box and always strives to do more than what is required. Someone who sees the bigger picture? You sound brilliant to work with!

We Want You To Shine

We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants. If you require accommodation due to a disability, you will have an opportunity to notify us when scheduling your interview.

Belonging Matters. Because You Do

We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage applications from all qualified individuals.

Our ability to work as one team across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean is foundational to our success. We show up as our authentic selves each day and create space for one another’s unique contributions.

Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Affinity Networks help us activate enterprise-wide strategies that power a proactive culture of diversity, equity, inclusions, and ultimately – belonging.

We respect the diverse cultures, traditions and perspectives of Indigenous Peoples and seek to achieve equitable partnerships and opportunities with Indigenous communities.

The Fine Print

Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the country in which they applied. Regrettably, we are unable to sponsor employment visas at this time.
