Nations Capital Energy Solutions, part of the McCrea family of companies, is hiring motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our fast-growing team in Newport News, VA as a Home Energy Rater (Field Inspector). This role is ideal for those looking to grow their skills in building science, energy codes, and home performance testing — prior certification is not required, and we provide full training and mentorship.

Pay:

- Trainee: $18 – $22/hour

- Certified HERS Raters: $50,000+ per year

Training and Career Path:

We provide all the tools, training, and guidance you need. You’ll work toward RFI certification by completing mentored ratings, passing the RESCAZ exam, and completing a final graded field evaluation. After certification and at least one year of experience, employees are eligible for further training and advancement based on performance and company needs.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct residential energy inspections and diagnostic testing (blower door, duct leakage, HVAC airflow)

- Prepare detailed reports and communicate with builders, contractors, and team members

- Maintain tools, testing equipment, and documentation

- Follow safety policies and manufacturer specifications

Requirements:

- RESNET HERS Certification or ability to acquire within a reasonable timeframe

- Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Professional, dependable, and self-motivated

- Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements:

- Comfortable working in attics, crawl spaces, and varying weather conditions

- Must lift 50 lbs, use ladders, and operate hand/power tools
