As a High Voltage Technician at RNWBL, you will perform critical maintenance, testing, and repairs on substations and high voltage (HV) collection systems supporting renewable energy operations. This is a hands-on, field-based role that requires technical expertise, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to lead by example in a dynamic energy environment.
- Respond to planned and unplanned outages at substations and collection systems (up to 500 kV)
- Perform safe de‑energization, lockout/tagout, and stored-energy discharge procedures
- Troubleshoot to the component level; repair and replace faulty electrical components
- Locate and repair underground cable faults using HV thumpers and TDR tools
- Perform diagnostic testing (Megohm meter, VLF, power factor, SFRA, DLRO, CB Analyzer, SF6 analyzer, TTR)
- Author, review, and execute HV switching orders; coordinate equipment outages
- Conduct IR thermography, oil sampling, battery maintenance, and routine inspections
- Train and mentor junior technicians in electrical safety and maintenance best practices
- Operate equipment safely (e.g., lifts, bucket trucks, forklifts, aerial platforms)
- Maintain compliance with EHS standards; participate in on-call rotation and travel as needed- 2+ years of experience in high, medium, and low voltage system maintenance and testing
- Experience with circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, air switches, and URD/XLPE cables
- Proficient with control circuits and HV troubleshooting
- Able to read one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Reside within or relocate to within 1 hour of project site
- Able to lift up to 70 lbs, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods
- Willing to work overtime and travel as needed
