Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the installation and construction of water and sewer lines and appurtenances; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Acts as lead worker of a crew; participates in the work of the crew installing pipes, pump stations, taps, meters, etc.;
Installs water and sewer lines, wet taps, bores under roads, small taps, individual grinder pump stations, fire hydrants, cross connection devices and valves;
Tests lines to correct pressure; ensures lines chlorinated and valves are closed;
Ensures all repair and maintenance work is done in accordance to Authority standards;
Ensures project landscaping is completed according to requirements;
Operates track hoe, tractors, back-hoe, loader, bull dozier, trencher, air hammer, tapping machine and trucks to move large equipment and mechanical equipment in connection with the above tasks;
Restores roadside work area along DOT RW and Horry County’s satisfaction, and landscaping yards;
Digs constantly with other utilities in the same ditch as pipe, fiber optic cables and overhead lines;
Operates large equipment in congested areas and in close proximity of vehicle traffic;
Knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of water and/or sewer lines; knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of water and/or sewer lines and appurtenances; knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools; thorough knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment; ability to proficiently operate back-hoe and other construction equipment; ability to perform manual and semi-skilled labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to perform strenuous manual labor under all weather conditions in the field; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED and 2 years’ experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer lines including experience operating heavy equipment.
Possession of a CDL license according to state of residence. Airbrakes endorsement and hazardous materials endorsement may be required.
