Job Summary:
The Compost and Loader Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment, including front-end loaders, to process, transport, and manage compost materials. This position ensures proper mixing, turning, and handling of organic waste materials to facilitate composting while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Compost Production & Processing:
•Operate loaders, screeners, and other heavy machinery to process compost materials.
•Load, transport, and mix organic waste, soil, and other materials as required.
•Monitor compost piles, adjusting moisture and aeration for optimal decomposition.
•Assist with grinding, and screening, of finished compost products.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
•Operate front-end loaders, and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
•Perform routine maintenance on loaders, conveyors, and composting machinery.
•Inspect and report any mechanical issues with equipment to supervisors.
Site Maintenance & Safety Compliance:
•Maintain a clean and organized compost facility, ensuring pathways remain clear.
•Follow all safety guidelines, including PPE use and heavy equipment protocols.
•Monitor environmental conditions to ensure compliance with local regulations.
General Labor & Team Support:
•Assist in receiving and sorting organic waste and compostable materials.
•Support team members in various facility operations as needed.
•Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding workflow and operational needs.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
•High school diploma or GED required.
•Coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related fields is a plus.
•Knowledge of composting processes, waste management, or agricultural is a plus.
•Prior experience operating a loader.
Skills & Abilities:
•Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
•Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
•Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
•Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform manual laboras needed.
•Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Licenses & Certifications:
•Valid driver’s license required.
•Heavy equipment operator certification (preferred)
•Obtain their Compost Certification class within the first year of employment.
•Obtain their Wastewater Operator License within the first year of employment.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
•Work involves exposure to chemicals, odors, and outdoor elements.
•Frequent lifting, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
•Exposure to dust, odors, and composting materials
Qualifications
Required: Candidate must have a positive attitude and proactive approach to work. Successful candidates will be able to meet short-range goals while maintaining focus of long-range goals. Water & Wastewater Services is a drug-free company and the ability to pass a drug test if required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
