Position Summary: The GIS Technician is responsible for updating and maintaining LCEC's electronic mapping systems within the System Graphics department. This position performs advanced updates to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to ensure the accuracy and integrity of spatial data. The technician will provide essential support to the Engineering and Operations Division by delivering timely mapping solutions and assisting with data analysis.
In addition, the GIS Technician will conduct field work such as GPS data collection, field verifications, and inspections to validate and enhance GIS data. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to collaborate with internal teams to support operational needs. This position plays a vital role in maintaining accurate, up-to-date geospatial information that supports the reliability and efficiency of LCEC's infrastructure and services.
Position Responsibilities
•Update GIS system maps from final as-built work requests and additional sources.
•Maintain system connectivity model in GIS system.
•Perform field checks to GPS electric facilities and verify accuracy or discrepancies from as-built work requests.
•Communicate with internal and external customers.
•Responsible for delivering projects and tasks on time and within budget.
•Maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels within LCEC. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.
•Update and document processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
Education
•High School Diploma or equivalent (Required) and
•Associate's degree In Drafting and Design. (Preferred)
•In lieu of an associate's degree the following will be considered:
•Completion of 2-year vocational certificate program in AutoCAD or using ESRI (ArcMap or ArcPro) or
•2 years direct GIS experience or
•2 years NISC’s Mapping & Staking, Staking, Map Viewer, or Compass.
Experience
•2+ to 5 Years experience with PC MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, PowerPoint, SharePoint). (Required)
•2+ to 5 Years experience in mapping environment. (Required)
•2+ to 5 Years direct GIS (ArcMap) experience and demonstrates sufficient depth. (Preferred)
•1+ to 2 Years experience in electric utility. (Preferred)
•1+ to 2 Years experience creating & maintaining data using NISC’s Mapping Staking, Map Viewer, or Compass. (Preferred)
•1+ to 2 Years experience with GPS technology, data collection and wireless mobile technologies. (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
•Demonstrates an understanding of maps and the ability to read and interpret a legend.
•Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles and practices.
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.

•Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with emerging GIS technologies and industry trends.
Licenses & Certifications
•Must possess & maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
