Purpose
Support a multi-disciplinary land development team by providing technical and design assistance in cartography, database management, and spatial analysis tools that inform planning, engineering, and environmental decisions.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
•Perform work under the close supervision of a more experienced GIS professional.
•Follow clearly defined procedures and guidelines to complete tasks.
•Receive direct instruction on routine tasks; work is regularly reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
At The Operational And Company Level
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal team members, external clients, and agency contacts.
•Support company goals and values through quality and accuracy in work product.
Do the Work
•Assist with collecting, organizing, and inputting spatial and attribute data into GIS databases.
•Create basic cartographic products such as maps, exhibits, and figures to support planning, engineering, and environmental projects.
•Use ArcGIS software to perform basic geoprocessing tasks, including data clipping, merging, and spatial queries.
•Help maintain internal GIS libraries, datasets, and file structures.
•Provide data conversion support (e.g., CAD to GIS, Excel to shapefile) with attention to file integrity and naming conventions.
•Perform QA/QC on simple datasets, checking for accuracy, completeness, and spatial alignment
•Follow established GIS workflows and document steps as directed for future reference.
•Assist with updates to GIS web maps and dashboards using Esri’s online tools.
•Support GIS team members with project research, base mapping, and field data preparation.
•Participate in ongoing training to build technical proficiency in GIS tools, software, and best practices.
•Perform other duties as assigned by GIS Leads, Project Managers, or Team Leaders.

Qualifications
•Associate degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
•Entry level position; no previous professional experience required—internships or class projects using GIS are a plus.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap and basic knowledge of geodatabases and shapefiles.
•Exposure to spatial data types, coordinate systems, and cartographic principles.
•Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
•Introductory knowledge of AutoCAD, basic GPS techniques, land planning, and zoning, preferred.
•Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS data collection, or remote sensing a plus.
•Willingness to learn new software and tools, including Esri Online, Python scripting, and LiDAR analysis.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
•Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
•Mobility around an office environment.
•Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
•Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
•Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
•Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
