About the OpportunityThis is an open position with the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company , a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [CEI]
The GIS technician is responsible for the mapping and records work for the Distribution function of the Company.
The position can be sited at one of many service centers within the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company operating area.
Responsibilities include:
•Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
•Preparing and maintaining specialized electrical schematic drawings such as Transmission, Network, and UCD system circuits using AutoCAD. Reconciling connectivity and attributes with geographical information system ( GIS), other records systems, and actual installations.
•Gathering information for installations by performing a field investigation which identifies measurements, terrain, assesses conditions, buildings, equipment clearances and obstacles.
•Developing and manipulating GIS queries of data for investigations, special projects, and statistical analysis.
•Coaching and assisting operations services personnel to resolve issues with GIS, AutoCAD, and GIS View systems.
•Receiving, processing, and filing all incoming records.
•Participating in Safety Fair, safety meetings and training, and perform safety inspections.
•Resolving GMS configuration issues.
•Performing GIS design work (i.e., post, promote, correct completed designs, verify attributes, maps and promote joint use jobs, and update streetlight and transformer records.)
•Reviewing work request packages and developing strategy to process request. Planning the work, updating maps, prints and GIS design.
•Acting as GIS coordinator on existing process enhancements, new functionality, anomalies, and special projects such as data audits and conversions.
•Training new and experienced employees in GIS design functionality through on-the-job instruction and problem resolution.
•Posting completed work requests to GIS database, and maps and records systems by interpreting construction prints, work management information, and field inspections.
•Using automated processes to digitize new GIS features, such as transmission line corridors.
•Importing sub-division maps into GIS Design using Auto Desk,
•Performing mapping fixes, meter removals, ACT 129, joint use, Mapframe Inventory, and OH/UG Circuit inspection follow-up work.
•Working closely with AEC Points, Citrix Map Manager, Secondary Connectivity, and Circuit Inspections.
•Reviewing work requests for accuracy and performing visual cleanup of GIS map as required.
•Providing assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities and travelling to various off-site locations as well as FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested.
Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline and 0-4 years related work experience are required.
•OR high school diploma or equivalent and minimum 2 - 5 years related work experience are required. Related work experience includes knowledge of planning/scheduling of work, construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
•Develops knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC), and Customer Guide for Electric Services (CGES).
•Understands the Company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and Manual of Operations and its practical application in the workplace.
•Self-motivated and able to balance competing priorities.
•Provides quality customer service, both internally and externally.
•Possesses solid verbal and written communication skills.
•Experienced with PC software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook, SAP, GIS, CREWS, and database query tools.
•Access to a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required, and possesses a valid driver’s license.
