Job Purpose
Based out of the EQUS Corporate Office in Innisfail, Alberta, the GIS Support Specialists assists the GIS Services Leader, drawing upon their training in Geographic Information Systems and other information technology related fields. This individual helps our IT department to maintain a superior mapping system for EQUS, and support the Business Services Leader - IT in technology projects. This individual also works with EQUS’ GIS and related systems vendors to resolve issues.
Duties
•Enter mapping and as-built information into EQUS’ GIS system .
•Support the Operations Group with correcting and connecting GIS and Engineering data models.
•Develop add-ons in collaboration with the System Operation Team based on organizational requirements.
•Maintain and manage different EQUS’ System such as Mapping, Engineering, Staking and Outage Management Systems.
•Develop and execute training programs on mapping and staking systems.
•Perform quality control of digital maps and help in creating standards and auditing.
•Create and maintain large format maps based on organizational requirements.
•Act as a resource for GIS mapping issues, questions, and troubleshooting in collaborate with the GIS team & System Operation Team.
•Act as support for projects, when required.
•Other related tasks, as required.

This position reports to the GIS Services Leader.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
•A mapping background and understanding of GIS and related systems is required
•Education or hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS and related products
•Knowledge of Python programming and modeling in ESRI or any other GIS environment
•Knowledge of LUA and Delphi scripting, and Crystal Reports would be an asset
•Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and experience in database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL
•Knowledge or understanding of spatial analysis techniques and geospatial data standards
•Strong attention to detail, and possession of strong technical, analytical and communication skills
•Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment
•Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and to collaboratively contribute to team initiatives
•Knowledge or Experience of working in the Energy/Electricity utility sector would be an asset
Education and Experience
•2 – 4 years of practical GIS experience within the utility industry, preferred
•Completion of Information Technology Degree or similar post-secondary education with a background of Geographic Information Systems
