POSITION SUMMARY:
UTI is currently seeking qualified candidates for a GIS Specialist II/III position. The primary focus of this position is to support the GIS department with maintaining a GIS enterprise database for pipeline data management. The selected candidate will collect, create, and edit pipeline data to be used in new and existing databases and graphics. The GIS department, including this position, also serves to assist the operations and maintenance departments of the organization with various tasks that ensure pipeline compliance and safety, focusing on 49 CFR 192 regulations. This position involves supporting the GIS department to develop, administer, and maintain a GIS-based custom work management system. This position has the option for hybrid or fully remote work and will require periodic travel to field projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Collect, manage, create, and edit data to be used in new and existing databases and graphics
•Use source data such as construction as-built drawings, compliance records, and field
collected resources
•Create new maps, graphic displays, and simulations to help staff understand and navigate
pipeline systems
•Develop and manage web maps, apps, dashboards, and surveys using ESRI Portal
•Provide GIS support to all departments with tailored mapping and graphics as needed
•Assist in interpreting/clarifying existing GIS graphics and files for other departments
•Work with field personnel with asset location and tracking
•Assist with training and support for internal ESRI Portal and ESRI Mobile Suite users
•Develop, maintain and manage a custom work management system
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
•B.S., B.A., M.A., or M.S. in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or
related field
•A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in GIS management
Proficiency in Esri's ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro for desktop mapping and analysis,
ArcGIS Enterprise, Survey123 Connect, ArcGIS Field Maps
•Understanding of data management and relational databases
•Knowledge of programming languages relevant to GIS (Python, SQL, or JavaScript) for
automating workflows and developing custom tools.
•Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
•Ability to work independently
•Ability to handle multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously without
compromising quality of work
•Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities in addressing complex spatial
challenges.
•Proficiency in designing and implementing innovative GIS solutions to support decision-making
and improve operational efficiency.
•Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement GIS-related best
practices.
•Proficient skills with standard office software including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft
SharePoint, and related equipment
•Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
•Discretion when dealing with confidential information
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience in the natural gas, energy, or consulting industries
•Working knowledge of 49 CFR 192 Pipeline Safety Regulations
•Scripting and development task experience
•Experience with VertiGIS Studio Essentials software
•Experience with GIS based asset and work management systems
•Experience with One Call systems
