Toth & Associates is seeking a GIS Specialist – Field Services with strong NISC experience to support electric utility projects and internal GIS operations. This is a dual-role position that supports both the GIS and Field Services departments, with responsibilities ranging from field staking and GPS data collection to mapping and data entry in NISC. In addition to utility-focused tasks, this role will also assist with the day-to-day GIS production work that supports a wide variety of projects across the company.
The position is based in Springfield, MO, with regular regional travel to client sites for field data collection and line staking.
Key Responsibilities
Field Services & Line Staking Support
•Stake new or relocated electric distribution lines using Carlson GPS equipment and RTK networks.
•Collect field data including pole locations, spans, clearances, photos, and site conditions.
•Use client staking software to lay out and document line routes based on design requirements.
•Conduct field visits for as-built verification and post-construction updates.
GIS & Mapping Tasks
•Perform standard GIS tasks such as data editing, map creation, QA/QC, and spatial analysis.
•Support internal GIS operations across electric, broadband, water, and other project types as assigned.
•Maintain spatial data using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, and internal systems.
•Coordinate with GIS team members to meet project schedules and ensure consistent data quality.
NISC & Utility System Support
•Enter staking and asset data into NISC MapWise, iVUE, or similar platforms.
•Assist with work order entry, data cleanup, and data conversion related to utility system integration.
•Support client and internal troubleshooting for NISC-related issues involving GIS or staking workflows.
Cross-Functional Support
•Adapt between fieldwork and office-based GIS tasks depending on current priorities.
•Assist internal staff with mobile GIS tools, GPS workflows, and data preparation.
•Participate in improving field-to-office data workflows and supporting team documentation.
Required
•Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
•Strong experience with NISC platforms such as MapWise, iVUE, or staking modules.
•Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and standard GIS workflows.
•Proficiency with Trimble or Carlson GPS equipment and RTK networks.
•Comfortable working independently in the field and adapting to varied outdoor conditions.
Preferred
•Prior employment with NISC, or work experience at a cooperative or utility organization utilizing NISC.
•Familiarity with electric distribution systems and line staking practices.
•Familiarity with Futura, Milsoft, or other utility GIS platforms.
•Experience supporting client-facing GIS or utility software issues.
•Background in data conversion, GIS system migrations, or asset management.
•Familiarity with fiber network mapping, broadband layouts, or water systems.
•Experience with Python, SQL, or ModelBuilder for GIS automation.
