About The Role
As a Geotechnical Engineer at Durin you will analyze geological and drilling data to interpret structures and conditions that impact rig operations. Working closely with engineering and operations teams, you will rapidly iterate on solutions in the field to improve safety, performance, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
•Analyze the mechanical behavior of different rock formations and how they interact with drilling equipment
•Collaborate with engineering to optimize drill designs and automation software for optimal drill performance, speed, and core recovery in various geological conditions
•Use simulation software and laboratory data to model rock behavior under drilling forces, vibrations, and stress conditions
•Conduct field tests to evaluate drill performance in diverse rock types and recommend design improvements
•Develop and implement strategies to minimize drillbit wear, improve penetration rates, and reduce drilling costs
•Produce technical reports and documentation on findings, providing recommendations for design optimizations based on geomechanical data
Competencies
•Experience in rock mechanics, geomechanics, or geotechnical analysis, ideally in mining, construction, or drilling industries
•Proficiency in geomechanical modeling software and CAD tools
•Strong understanding of the mechanical properties of rocks and their response to stress, pressure, and drilling forces
•Field experience in drilling operations and geotechnical surveys
•Knowledge of mineral exploration techniques and drilling equipment
•Experience with field testing and working in rugged environments
