Reporting to the department Supervisor, the Labourer is responsible for assisting in a variety of tasks including preparing material, assembly work, packaging, material handling, and general clean-up of shop areas.

The following are the general job responsibilities for the Labourer.
- Clean and/ or acid wash parts, prepare parts for next operation, deburr, polish, paint, sandblast, package products prior to final assembly or delivery
- Prep work and may assist with tack welding
- May operate saw, drill press, shear and brake press
- May do some welding of standard products (if qualified)
- May remove burrs or excess metal from machined or fabricated parts, using files, sandpaper, emery cloth, or grinders.
- May operate Slotter, Lathe, or other manual machinery (if qualified)
- Load and unload materials, parts, or products onto or from pallets, skids, or trucks manually or using fork truck or hoist
- Deliver parts or stock to designated work areas using fork truck, hoist, or pallet mover
- Clean shop work area.
- Stock washrooms.
- Separate metal shavings, chips, and scrap materials in bins for recycling.
- Must be capable of following instructions
- Must be familiar with measuring tools and safe operation of tools
- Must have good housekeeping skills
- A valid drivers’ license is recommended
- Possess basic knowledge in print reading
- Must have basic knowledge of different materials
- Must be able to effectively communicate and problem solve within a team environment
- Must be capable of working effectively with limited supervision but with controlled guidance
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and maintain a strong commitment to the B&D Manufacturing Safety Program at all times
