General Helper

The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude and includes the following: a) communicates and gets along with co-workers and the public, b) cooperating with co-workers, c) working as a team member, d) functions well under intense time pressure, e) responding in a positive manner to supervision.

Individual in this position will ride on REMC’s Service Truck with a lineman with the following job duties:

1. Assist with the maintenance of distribution and service lines and equipment

2. Assist during system trouble; installs and removes meters

3. Responsible for tools that are assigned to truck and care and cleaning of vehicle assigned.

4. Be able to lift and walk on rough terrain and to work and drive in all types of weather

5. Be able to respond to service complaints and inspect lines to identify possible problems

6. Experience in locating, identifying and marking underground utility lines before construction or other projects in the area.

6. Must understand and personally perform all duties in accordance with applicable safety and Cooperative policy manuals, as well as being constantly alert to and cautioning his/her fellow employees about existing hazards and/or unsafe practices.

7. Be able to understand and help diagnose system problems

8. Perform other duties as assigned

Position requires a high school diploma or GED. This position works out of our Morganton office. Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Burke-McDowell district. The candidate must have a valid NC driver’s license, with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License if needed. This position is subject to the On-Call Schedule and may be called upon to work any hour on an as needed basis.

Pay: $19.00 - $29.00 per hour
