GMB Powerline Services pledges to our customers, colleagues, and community members to provide the very best in industry standards for restoring electrical services. We are a family owned and operated organization based out of West Virginia. We service the lower Southeast, upper Northeast and reach as far as the Midwest to help maintain and restore power to the communities we serve. We pull our crews together from our satellite locations to quickly and efficiently answer the call. When a call comes in for the probability of an outage we will travel near and far to aid in the restoration of downed lines.
We give back to our local communities and support our IBEW family. We pull together and work as a close-knit team bound together by our mission and values, always striving for operating excellence. We are working on expanding our fleet operations and increasing both our corporate staff and full-time crew members. Position Summary:
The General Foreman is a leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple crews in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical powerlines. This position requires exceptional supervisory skills, as the General Foreman will manage and coordinate multiple foremen and their teams, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. A key part of the role involves overseeing storm response efforts, mobilizing crews quickly during outages, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining safety in hazardous conditions. The General Foreman is responsible for fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and professional growth, while also managing resource allocation, troubleshooting complex issues, and communicating with leadership and clients. With a focus on day-to-day operations and emergency storm responses, the General Foreman ensures all work is executed to the highest standards of quality and safety. This is a crucial role in maintaining GMB Powerline Services’ commitment to operational excellence and providing timely, reliable service.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision
•Oversee and coordinate the work of multiple foreman and crews, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all projects.
•Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and professional development through mentorship and training of foremen and crew members.
•Maintain a safe and productive work environment by enforcing strict compliance with safety protocols.
•Ensure efficient allocation of resources and manage project timelines to meet operational goals.
•Lead by example, demonstrating the highest standard of work ethic, technical expertise, and adherence to safety protocols.
•Serve as the primary point of contact for superintendents, leadership teams, and clients, providing updates and resolving issues efficiently.
Powerline Installation, Maintenance, and Repair
•Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems (overhead and underground), including powerlines, transformers, and related equipment across multiple sites.
•Ensure all electrical work is performed in compliance with established safety standards and industry best practices.
•Manage the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and line-tensioning devices across multiple crews.
•Assist with high-level technical tasks and problem-solving as needed, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
•Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and site inspections for all work crews and job sites to ensure adherence to OSHA, federal, and state safety regulatory requirements.
•Identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks on job sites.
•Ensure all team members are properly trained, equipped with the necessary safety gear and equipment, and adhere to safety protocols.
•Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety gear.
•Maintain detailed documentation of safety incidents, near misses, and corrective actions taken.
Storm Call Coordination and Supervision
•Lead the immediate mobilization of crews during storm events, ensuring that all resources, equipment, and personnel are dispatched swiftly to affected areas.
•Oversee the deployment of multiple crews to storm-affected areas, ensuring resources and personnel are present and in place to address the scale of the emergency.
•Maintain a heightened safety focus in hazardous conditions with a significant emphasis on adherence to storm safety protocols.
•Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews, superintendents, and senior leadership during storm events.
•Provide regular updates on crew status, equipment needs, and project progress.
•Lead troubleshooting efforts in storm-related damage, such as downed-lines, equipment failure, or damaged infrastructure.
•Oversee the logistical coordination of materials, equipment, and support personnel during storm calls.
•Lead post-event debriefs to assess effectiveness of the response, identify areas of improvement, and ensure all restoration efforts are completed to industry standards.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving
•Supervise troubleshooting efforts and ensure that electrical systems and equipment are diagnosed and resolved efficiently across multiple teams.
•Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement effective solutions to fix complex issues.
•Provide guidance and support to foremen crew members in troubleshooting complex issues.
Documentation and Reporting
•Oversee accurate and timely documentation of project progress, safety incidents, work completed, and other related activities.
•Provide regular and detailed reports to upper management, superintendents, and clients regarding project status, KPIs (key performance indicators), and any issues encountered.
Education Requirements & Experience Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED required.
•5+ years of field experience in powerline installation, maintenance, and repair.
•3+ years of supervisory experience overseeing multiple crews/ foremen.
Technical Skills
•Proficient in the operation and maintenance of powerline installation equipment.
•Strong knowledge of electrical systems and safety standards.
•Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
•Experience with troubleshooting electrical systems and resolving technical issues.
•Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting and team coordination.
Complexity
1. Supervisory responsibility:
•Direct supervision of multiple foremen and their respective crews, ensuring smooth execution of daily tasks and overall progress.
•Responsible for mentoring and developing team leaders, fostering a positive work culture, and providing leadership during project execution.
1. Scope/Financial Responsibility
•Accountable for overseeing the resource allocation for multiple field projects, ensuring compliance with budgets and timelines.
•Responsible for monitoring and controlling project costs, ensuring cost-effective resource use, and reporting on financial performance across multiple job sites.
