Gas Operations Technician
Easton Utilities is currently seeking to fill the position of Gas Technician. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and service excellence. This individual will exemplify Easton Utilities’ core values of Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence while contributing to the reliable operation and maintenance of our natural gas distribution system.
HIRING RANGE: $19.65/hr. or higher depending upon experience
JOB OBJECTIVE: Provide Easton Utilities gas customers with dependable and consistent quality service through the construction and maintenance of Easton Utilities natural gas distribution pipeline system, regulators and customer service lines. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with on-call requirements.
- Good verbal communication skills and ability to work well with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.
- Knowledge of basic report preparation, ability to do arithmetic calculations, knowledge of computers and computer operating systems.
- Ability to understand construction drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to operate backhoe, mini-excavator, air compressors, and related construction equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and directions.
- Maintain a neat appearance.
- May require the need to work more than an 8-hour day.
- Must possess valid CDL Class A or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire date.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Working outside in all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb, lift, bend, dig, push, pull, and lift 60 pounds regularly, and throughout a workday.
- Ability to work in a hazardous atmosphere while utilizing flame-resistant clothing and breathing apparatus.
- Ability to pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.
- Ability to pass the annual respirator fit test.
HIRING RANGE: $23.55/hr. or higher depending upon experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated proficiency as a Gas Tech Trainee, or equivalent experience in natural gas operations or maintenance.
- Valid Operator Qualifications (OQs).
- Completion of all assigned Easton Utilities OQ modules within (6) six months.
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Basic knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, leak detection, and monitoring devices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, surveys, gas system maps, valve maintenance maps, leak survey maps, and blueprints.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with GIS mapping and SpryPoint preferred.
- Ability to perform mathematical functions and field measurements accurately.
- Must reside within 15 miles of 201 N. Washington Street, Easton, MD 21601, or be willing to relocate within one (1) year of hire.
- Must be able to report to the job site within 60 minutes while on-call.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Obtain and maintain Operator Qualifications Certification (OQ) within six (6) months of hire.
- Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) 10 or higher certification is required or the ability to obtain within one (1) year.
HIRING RANGE: $28.7/hr. or higher depending upon experience
- Possess a valid CDL Class A driver’s license.
- Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated proficiency as a Gas Tech I, or equivalent of four (4) years of relevant industry experience in natural gas operations or maintenance with valid Operator Qualifications (OQs) and OSHA 10 certification.
- Completion of all assigned OQ modules.
- Proficient knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, natural gas detecting and monitoring devices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, surveys, gas system maps, valve maintenance maps, leak survey maps, and blueprints.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, and SpryPoint.
- Ability to perform mathematical functions and field measurements accurately.
- Must reside within 15 miles of 201 N. Washington Street, Easton, MD 21601, or be willing to relocate within one (1) year of hire.
- Must be able to report to the job site within 60 minutes while on-call.
- High school diploma or equivalent.

HIRING RANGE: $30.96/hr. or higher depending upon experience
- Possess a valid CDL Class A driver’s license.
- Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated proficiency as a Gas Tech II, or equivalent of six (6) years of relevant industry experience in natural gas operations with active Operator Qualifications (OQs) and RGDP eligibility.
- Completion of all assigned OQ modules.
- Eligibility for Registered Gas Distribution Professional (RGDP) certification.
- Considerable knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, including the use of natural gas detecting and monitoring devices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, surveys, gas system maps, valve maintenance maps, and blueprints.
- Ability to lay out and construct a wide variety of gas distribution and service lines with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in mathematical calculations and field measurements.
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions and work independently with sound judgment.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and represent the organization positively.
- Must be able to work beyond an eight-hour day when required to meet operational needs.
- Must be able to report to the job site within 60 minutes while on-call.
