Jupiter Volta Inc. is looking for an ambitious and hands-on Mechanical Engineer to maintain, modify, design, develop, and deploy fluid handling systems for a novel plasma processing technology, with innovative applications ranging from making fertilizer to generating fusion energy. Our ideal candidate seeks a new mission-driven challenge, and will thrive in our team culture of innovation, excellence, and passion for changing the world.
Our fluid handling systems create vacuum, compress and transport process gases, flow coolant, and create pneumatic logic circuits. Pressures span from ultra-high vacuum to multiple atmospheres of pressure. As a member of our small team, you will be working in different areas of expertise as project needs dictate, and have the opportunity to enlarge your skillset to meet project needs. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a pragmatic approach, who is capable of working independently and incrementally towards ambitious goals via application of foundational engineering principles.
- Design, install, test, and troubleshoot mechanical components such as flow nozzles, pumps and compressors, pneumatic and electric valves, and coolant loop systems.
- Troubleshoot and seal leaks in vacuum systems.
- Develop modifications for existing systems to improve available process performance characteristics such as flow rates, achievable pressure, and chemical compatibility.
- Define specifications and manage manufacturing of components with external vendors such as vacuum pumps and high purity blowers, mass-flow meters and controllers, and motorized positioning stages.
- Design fluid logic systems, working with controls engineers to control fluid systems accurately.
- Develop and implement new configurations of vacuum, gas, and cooling water conveyance lines. Improve designs for fluid piping to ensure ease of maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Develop best practices for assembly and maintenance of vacuum plasma system components.
- Develop safety components like machine guards for hot piping, and logical safety procedures to keep operators away from danger.
- Generate and execute testing plans for devices.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers and scientists to evaluate performance of prototype systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
- 2+ years of experience in hands-on Fluid Systems Engineering (Required) - 1+ years of experience with Solidworks or other mechanical CAD package (Required)- Knowledge of industrial/vacuum plumbing components such as NPT, push-to-connect, compression, VCR, KF, CF, ISO, Tri-Clamp
- Basic fabrication skills - e.g. bandsaw, drill press, lathe, welding, etc.
- Mechanical assembly skills
- Vacuum system experience (semiconductor equipment, etc.)
- PLC programming, Ignition Designer, Industrial controls, other programming skills
- Experience with rapid prototype procurement
Jupiter Volta is an early-stage startup. Compensation will include equity and be awarded based on experience.
