Performance Improvement Manager (Birmingham, AL)

Job Summary: This position is designated as the Corporate Functional Area Manager (CFAM) to provide governance and oversight for the Performance Improvement (PI) functional area and Human Performance (HU) program. This position is responsible for providing strategic oversight, governance and leadership to drive station performance in the assigned functional area and is accountable for performance outcomes that include station efficiencies and reliability improvement.

The PI CFAM reports to the Director of Organizational Effectiveness CFAM and interacts functionally with the site OR Managers and OR and PI Coordinators.

Job Requirements : (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills) This position requires experience in the Performance Improvement functional area and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization.


Education, Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years of nuclear experience, or a bachelor’s degree and seven (7) years of Nuclear Experience
4 years of nuclear power plant site experience
4 years of supervisory/management experience
Previous experience as a Site Functional Area Manager (SFAM) is desired


_ _ Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

Prior experience in Self-Assessment Program, Benchmarking Program, Corrective Action Program, and Trending Program.
Prior experience in INPO Industry Reporting and Information System (IRIS) data entry and reporting.
Prior experience and working knowledge in causal analysis products.
Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse population at all levels in the organization.
Demonstrated ability to model the “Traits of a Healthy Nuclear Safety Culture” and “Leadership and Teamwork Attributes”.
Demonstrated ability to properly establish priorities and hold the organization accountable to the management model.
Ability to use analytical and intuitive thinking processes and approaches in problem solving and identifying trends to arrest performance declines.
Ability to solve problems and make sound technical judgments, based on experience and proper application of industry practices.
Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and facilitative skills.
High degree of comfort and confidence in interacting with and influencing leaders at all levels of the organization.
Requires strong ownership skills, proactive traits, and good client relations.
Must demonstrate courage to intervene and challenge leaders when performance does not meet standards or desired outcomes are not being achieved.
Working knowledge of NRC and INPO regulations/guidance for performance improvement, human performance (HU), Corrective Action Program (CAP).
Involvement in Industry organizations (INPO, CAPOG, HU working Group) desired.


Major Job Responsibilities :

Governance and Oversight of the Performance Improvement processes including CAP, and the HU program for the fleet. This includes maintaining functional area scorecards and routine travel to the sites.
Clearly define and implement standards of excellence for PI and HU for the fleet.
Identify and execute performance improvements to drive industry's best performance.
Review and analyze assessments, reports, observations to sift site-specific deficiencies from fleet-wide shortfalls to initiate interventions as needed.
Monitor industry trends and best practices to identify opportunities for innovation and performance enhancement in PI and HU programs and behaviors.
Works with the Performance Improvement peer teams and the OR Manager Peer team to implement fleet wide actions and set priorities for the fleet in the functional area.
Ensure effective CAP implementation and serve as oversight of the Management Review Council and HU Management Ownership and Alignment Meetings.
Create a culture of improvement by encouraging employees to identify problems and offering rewards for identifying solutions.
Manage the Birmingham Performance Improvement team.
Identify benchmarking and self-assessment opportunities within the functional area.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement process improvements and best practices in the area of PI and HU.
Establish metrics, benchmarks, and goals to monitor and evaluate performance improvement and human performance.
Conduct teaching and learning, training and workshops to enhance employee skills around performance improvement.
Actively influence industry direction through industry group participation.
