Job Summary:
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for assessing work and performing preventative maintenance and repair work on a variety of equipment, including semi-tractors, passenger vehicles, trailers, and small machinery. Inspect completed work to ensure that quality maintenance standards are met. Ensure proper use and care of physical assets and prevent and/or minimize equipment failures.
Primary Job Duties:
•Adhere to the company’s Vision and Core Values.
•Adhere and comply with the company’s handbook and company policies.
Semi-Tractor & Passenger Vehicle Work:
•Perform oil changes, replace spark plugs, and conduct other routine maintenance.
•Replace tires, windshields, seats, and miscellaneous hardware.
•Install electronic hardware such as dash cams, ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices), dispatch tablets, and computers.
•Conduct annual inspections and ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as required under Section 396.13.
Trailer Maintenance & Repair:
•Replace tires, perform wheel seal and bearing replacements, and complete grease jobs.
•Repair and replace trailer brake systems.
•Fix air leaks and troubleshoot/repair lighting, wiring, probes, and Skully systems.
Additional Equipment Maintenance:
•Perform maintenance and minor repairs on lawn mowers and other small equipment.
•Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications/Preference:
Education:
•High School diploma or equivalent required.
•Graduate from a diesel tech program preferred.
Experience:
•Previous experience in vehicle and trailer maintenance and repair preferred
•Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical components, and fleet technology preferred.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations:
•Current Driver’s License required.
•CDL – Class A preferred.
•Hazmat endorsement preferred.
•Current Medical Card preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
•Ability to read, write, and understand English required; ability to read work orders required.
•Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities and work with tight deadlines while exercising attention to detail required.
•Computer experience preferred.
•Provide own tools or company-provided at employee's cost required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles and confined spaces. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
