Description
The Financial Reporting Manager reports to the Assistant Controller – Financial Reporting and is a key contributor to the company’s financial operations. This role is responsible for providing the company’s senior leadership team and outside investors with financial and operational reporting, analysis, and related information needed to make strategic decisions for the company’s business.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Manage the general ledger, lead monthly and quarterly accounting close processes, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (e.g. accounting, treasury, legal) to ensure tasks and deliverables are met within deadlines
- Review and post corporate accounting transactions (e.g. eliminations, related party, intercompany, mark-to-market derivative, G&A, equity, mergers/acquisitions, various accruals)
- Review and analyze accounting reconciliations; resolve discrepancies, if identified
- Ensure accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, equity statements, cash flow statements and footnotes to the financial statements
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP
- Identify and implement opportunities to maximize utilization of our staff augmentation model
- Identify skill gaps and implement strategies to enhance the team’s capabilities
- Manage, lead and train the extended team, ensuring consistent and timely execution of recurring and ad hoc responsibilities
- Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback
- Chart of account maintenance
- Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance accuracy and efficiency for accounting processes and procedures
- Document accounting procedures and monitor consistent adherence to internal controls over financial reporting
- Manage month, quarter, and year-end closing processes
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Facilitate the external audit – walkthroughs, quarterly reviews and year-end audit processes
- Collaborate and maintain strong relationships with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial data
- Assist with financial audits and ensure timely distribution of financial statements
- Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects, as requested
- Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations
- Willingness to travel occasionally (domestically and internationally), if needed
- Minimum of 10 years of upstream E&P accounting experience in external audit, financial reporting for a public company, or some combination thereof
- Strong technical understanding of oil and gas accounting
- Supervisory experience in financial reporting with a Big 4 firm or at an upstream E&P company preferred
- Masters in Accounting preferred; CPA strongly preferred
- Advanced MS Excel skills, with the ability to reverse-engineer workbooks to identify and implement enhancements
- Understanding of ERP systems
