Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Field Welder/ Fitter, licensed position includes fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other material by applying appropriate welding techniques in accordance with product specifications and production schedules.. They assist in the training of employees to ensure they are familiar with the onsite setup and operation of equipment in a safe manner according to company and site specific health and safety policies. Duties include:
•Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment
•Work closely with Field Millwrights to plan and execute Field Mechanical jobs both on and off-site
•Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape
•Perform related tasks, such as cutting and grinding
•Repair broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts
•Clean, position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
•Must be fully competent in the welding operation included and not limited to: mig, stick, brazing plasma, cutting torch, arc air, related to specific department requirements both in the shop or on site
•Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other material by applying appropriate welding techniques
•Competently operate all fabricating/welding related equipment related to specific department requirements such as; shear, brake press, iron worker, overhead crane and general related hand tools
•Read and interpret fabrication drawings including welding symbols and material specs
•Accurately read measuring tools
•Work in different locations (in plant, on site) on a variety of shifts
•Assist in the training of workers in the operation of equipment and instruct less experienced welders in safe and effective set up operation techniques and job procedures.
Skills and Experience Required:
•College diploma in a related trade or equivalent
•Qualified CWB welder or equivalent certificate of qualification
•Current WHMIS is required
•Must have valid G Driver's License
•Minimum of 5 years of extensive experience in heavy industrial welding
•Experience working in an ISO quality environment is required
•Working knowledge and extensive experience working as a CWB certified welder
•Experience welding hardened plate
•Mining / Underground experience
•General knowledge of computer applications
•Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
•Able to organize, coordinate, and direct projects.
•Strong oral and written communication skills
•Solid analytical and technical skills with the ability to use B&D hardware and software programs
•Demonstrate and apply strong problem solving skills in day to day operations
•Review processes for potential problems and opportunities for improvement and collaborate with appropriate personnel to resolve issues.
•Ability to effectively communicate and problem solve within a team environment and make decisions
•Self-starter with the ability to work effectively with very little or no supervision.
•Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and maintains a strong commitment to the B&D Manufacturing Safety Program at all times
Working Conditions:
•Work involves considerable stooping, bending, lifting, and standing.
•Work involves frequent movements regularly required using the wrists, hands, legs, and arms
•Ability to do Shift work as required
•Ability to work out of town as required
