The Field Technician Level 4 is a highly skilled and experienced technician who consistently demonstrates expert-level knowledge in pipeline tapping, line-stopping, valve insertions, and field repairs. This individual is trusted to lead large-scale projects, train and mentor others, and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality in the field. They are capable of executing advanced technical operations with minimal oversight while modeling professionalism, communication, and reliability.
- Perform complex wet taps, line stops, and valve insertions up to and including 66” on all major pipe types
- Serve as a lead technician on high-priority or high-risk jobsites
- Review project scopes and assist in selecting appropriate equipment and materials
- Provide hands-on training and field coaching for lower-level technicians
- Identify and advise on pipeline repair options for both short-term and long-term rehabilitation
- Troubleshoot and resolve field issues independently, including emergency repairs
- Maintain detailed jobsite records, safety documentation, and project updates
- Ensure consistent adherence to company policies, safety protocols, and work procedures
- Assist with quality control checks and post-job evaluations
- Expert proficiency with field service equipment, including large-diameter tap and line-stop setups
- Ability to mentor and lead technicians while maintaining team performance and morale
- High-level mechanical troubleshooting and decision-making ability
- Clear, concise communication with clients, coworkers, and management
- Valid driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions and confined spaces
- Comfortable working on-call or in emergency response settings
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and site-specific safety requirements
- Proficient with digital tools used for GPS, scheduling, and reporting
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 5+ years of field experience in utility construction or related technical trades- OSHA 10 and forklift certification (or obtained within 90 days of hire)
Mental/Physical Demands and Environmental Factors:
- Regular climbing, lifting, kneeling, and overhead work
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and climb up to 30 feet
- Manual dexterity and visual/auditory accuracy for operating heavy equipment
- Exposure to construction site hazards, weather extremes, and confined spaces
- Travel by vehicle or air for regional/national assignments
- High-stress and physically demanding environments at times
