About This Job

Reads, records, and downloads meter reading data as required from all types of Company revenue and exchange point meters. Does a comparative analysis of the data, and reports any irregular energy consumption or conditions in the field. Connects and disconnects all Company direct-metered accounts in accordance with established Tariff rules and Company procedures. Collects credit deposits and delinquent payments from customers at their service address, and submits them with related documentation tot he appropriate Department personnel.

This position requires the incumbent to be physically on-site. Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Rate of pay is determined by the current collective bargaining agreement.

Position Responsibilities:

- Locates, installs, removes, energizes and de-energizes all Company revenue direct meters and Service Limiters as required. Locks and unlocks main disconnects or breakers in their "off" position when necessary (transformer rated meters) and conveys the current status of each service directly or indirectly (notice) to each customer and appropriate personnel of the Department as required.

- Observes, records and reports any evidence of unauthorized or irregular wiring, damaged, hazardous or inaccessible metering facilities, flat connections or diversion, unrecorded meters, missing seals and other unusual or irregular conditions on the customer's or Company's service equipment or facilities. Reseals any unsealed meters or facilities containing unmetered conductors. Assists in follow-up activities related to the above.

- Assists in troubleshooting unresponsive revenue direct meters and communicates the information to the appropriate personnel as required.

- Observes, records, and investigates irregularities in electric consumption with customer and discusses all pertinent factors involved in determining customers' bills correctly.

- Investigates to determine the responsibility for electric consumption on inactive accounts and initiates applications or power theft procedures where applicable.

- Collects credit deposits and delinquent payments from customers at their service address as needed, and submits them with related documentation to the appropriate Department personnel.

- Resolves billing exceptions, generates and processes Meter Change & Complaint Forms, types correspondence and prepares various workgroup statistical reports as required.

- Maintains the Company's Route Management System including route planning and route sequencing subsystems.

- Performs transfers of meter reading data to the billing system as required.

- Interfaces with customers by providing information as requested. Refers customers to appropriate company personnel as needed.

- Communicates inventory levels of job specific supplies to the Supervisor for the purpose of maintaining sufficient quantities.

- Participates in and is responsible for providing on-the-job training to all personnel in the Section.

- Drives company motor vehicle as required. Is responsible for operating and maintaining motor vehicle according to State traffic codes, safety codes, and operating procedures.

- Maintains all documentation necessary and related to the responsibilities of the workgroup.

- Knows and applies company policies, procedures, safety and other applicable rules.

- Provides continuous feedback to the work group on ways to improve the effectiveness of existing processes.

- Performs similar and incidental duties as required to expedite Department operations.


Qualifications and Experience:

- Must be able to differentiate between a variety of colors, and vision must be correctable to 20/20.

- Must pass Differential Aptitude Test (standardized tests of abstract reasoning, mechanical reasoning, verbal reasoning, and numerical ability).

- Must have, or be able to obtain, a State of Hawaii Driver's License, drive a standard or automatic transmission, and be able to operate motor vehicles proficiently.

- Must have a clean traffic abstract.

- Must pass the Company's pre-employment physical examination and substance abuse test and be capable of performing the required physical work of the position.

- Must have good communication, presentation, and human relation skills with the ability to handle difficult and sensitive issues.

- Must have excellent hand/eye coordination skills for hand-held computer data entry.

- Must pass probationary requirements during first six months: free from vehicular accidents.

- At least three (3) years of satisfactory customer service experience or equivalent.

- Experience in effectively coping with the common hazards associated with working outdoors.

- Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent (GED).

- Working knowledge of IBM-PC/compatible hardware and software, with experience in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point desired.

- Must demonstrate the technical knowledge and experience of connecting and disconnecting direct-metered accounts, and prove an awareness of connect/disconnect Tariff rules and Company procedures.

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

- Must possess good interpersonal skills and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.

- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and see, talk or hear. The employee is required to walk, bend and reach with body, legs, feet, hands and arms.

- The employee must occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 70 pounds.

- Driving vehicles for hours at a time is typical.

- The noise and dust level in the work environment is as would be encountered in normal commercial/industrial sites.

- Most of the work each day will be performed in an outdoor environment. The job requires driving and making multiple entries and exits from a motor vehicle in all types of weather conditions.
