Position Summary:
The Field Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of diesel-powered equipment and vehicles used in oilfield operations. This role ensures all equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards. The Field Mechanic works in remote locations and is often required to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues on-site with minimal supervision.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
•Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical systems on frac, cement, and other field equipment.
•Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and emergency repairs in the field.
•Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and hours worked.
•Operate service trucks and maintain tools, parts inventory, and safety equipment.
•Communicate effectively with supervisors and equipment operators to identify mechanical issues.
•Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety policies and DOT regulations.
•Provide technical support to field crews and report major equipment issues to the Maintenance Supervisor.
•Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both in the field and in assigned vehicles.
•Assist in training junior mechanics or field personnel as required.
•Be available for on-call work, overtime, weekends, and travel as necessary.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
•High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
•Minimum 3 years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in the oilfield or energy sector.
•Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
•Proficiency in reading technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
•Must have own hand tools suitable for field repairs.
•Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
•Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
•Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and remote locations.
Working Conditions:
•Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
•The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
•Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
•Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
•Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
•React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
•Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
•Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
•Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
•Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
