We are seeking a permanent Facilities Design Engineer to join our Telecommunications Department in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- Responsible for leading complex and/or advanced design tasks and a range of projects for Telecommunications auxiliary
communication systems and related buildings and systems infrastructure.
- Provide subject matter expertise within the department for complex Telecommunications auxiliary communication systems
and related buildings and systems, providing primary technical support in local, interdisciplinary and externally driven teams or
initiatives.
- Responsible to provide design specifications, technical drawing templates, engineering drawings, bills of materials, setup
configurations and installation work packages for moderately complex Telecommunications auxiliary communications systems
and related buildings and systems infrastructure.
- Communicate with wider design teams in the department and in the enterprise related to project activities and resolution of
project issues, providing input and direction to stakeholders and key stakeholders to ensure team success.
- Lead development of new technical solutions, practices, or processes for complex issues in area of responsibility.
- Responsible for decisions related to complex problems in area of expertise. Responsible for implementation and coordination
- Assess and recommend updated practice, process and governance to the technical team. Where applicable, mentor or lead
technical development of the technical team including impacted field staff.
- Provide Design input on procurement, interdisciplinary technical evaluation and review, and where applicable, both vendor
negotiation and contract management. Provide design to establish and supervise smaller contracts, including outline
agreements to create and maintain telecommunications auxiliary equipment and systems.
- Responsible to implement moderately complex projects within area of expertise and is directly involved in interdisciplinary
enterprise projects. Coordinate project activities for interdisciplinary project work where required.
- Prepares or supports preparation of reports and progress monitoring within area of expertise.
- Liase with suppliers and enterprise personnel on design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of related equipment
- Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing plus a minimum of six years engineering
experience including at least two years experience in auxiliary/anciliary Systems Design Experience.
- Must have completed Standards of Conduct training or be willing to complete within two weeks of start date.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a

- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba
- Must complete Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training prior to transfer date and renewed annually.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to carry out complex projects to successful completion (on schedule and budget) with
- Demonstrated knowledge of auxiliary system practice and standards including the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Demonstrated KSA to effectively use MS Office, SmallWorld PNI (TeleGIS), AutoCAD, SharePoint, SAP and network
- Demonstrated KSA to follow and improve procedures, processes, and strategies.
- Knowledge of Manitoba Hydro's Telecommunications systems.
- Demonstrated KSA to make engineering computations quickly and accurately.
- Willing to travel both inside and outside the province or country as required for project work or training.
- Must have a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Working knowledge of SAP, EAM, AMPS and RMS an asset.
- Demonstrated expert working knowledge of Telecommunications Auxiliary systems including 48V battery and rectifier
systems, UPS, and standby ac generators and ac transfer panels, telecommunications alarm systems, communications
buildings and rooms an asset.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $47.32-$65.33 Hourly,
$90,677.86-$125,192.08 Annually.
