Chesapeake Machining & Fabrication, Inc., is seeking a full time fabrication shop foreman to manage our manufacturing fabrication department in this job shop environment.
The fabrication shop foreman shall act as a hands-on floor leader, assisting with the planning, scheduling and efficient execution of work orders involving fitting & welding. This is not a desk job! Although there are important administrative duties, the primary focus for this position will be to provide strong, consistent floor leadership. The foreman would be expected to perform any necessary hands on manufacturing activity, either in the completion of an active job, or as part of the training of others.
This position reports to the owner/President and will be responsible for:
•Analyzing work orders and drawings to determine information such as: material to be used, welding processes required, type and sequence of operations, fixturing to be used, and tooling requirements
•Recommend and assist in the development of welding procedures and qualification of welders to AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.5, AWS D1.6, and other AWS welding codes as required
•Monitor and train welders as needed to perform satisfactory welds to comply with approved procedures including in-process review of completed welds for acceptability.
•Requisition tooling, supplies, and materials when necessary
•Estimating man hour requirements for completion of job assignments; establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
•Setting up and operate equipment to train others, make test runs, or determine processes
•Monitoring work in progress for quality and timeliness; coordinate with QA Manager
•Coordinate with the front office on delivery of partial & complete orders
•Recommending measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
•Maintaining machinery and tooling; set standards for shop housekeeping and organization
•Interpreting company policies to workers; enforce MOSHA safety regulations
•Analyzing and resolve shop floor problems, initiate and suggest plans to motivate shop personnel to achieve work goals
•Projecting positive attitude to co-workers, customers and suppliers
•Familiar with weld process AWS D1.1
•Proficient in reading both mechanical and architectural drawings
