Key Responsibilities
•Execute heavy timber framing and joinery on restoration projects, ensuring historical accuracy and structural soundness.
•Install, repair, and restore timber elements such as beams, rafters, joists, and decking using traditional tools and methods.
•Collaborate with preservation architects and project managers to interpret specifications and drawings.
•Travel to various job sites and adapt to unique restoration challenges with flexibility and attention to detail.
•Maintain clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant work environments.
•Assist with training and mentoring junior carpenters in traditional techniques.
•Uphold quality standards and meet project deadlines efficiently.
Qualifications
•5+ years of carpentry experience, including heavy timber framing and historic restoration.
•Demonstrated knowledge of joinery techniques, period-correct tools, and wood species.
•Ability to interpret blueprints, elevation drawings, and restoration specs.
•Comfortable working at heights and in varied weather conditions.
•Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
•Willingness to travel for multi-week projects.
•Experience coordinating crews and managing project timelines is a plus.
•Knowledge of Illinois construction codes and labor compliance is helpful.
