What are your responsibilities?
The Excitation Field Engineer (FE) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of GE and non-GE excitation and load commutated inverter (LCI) systems. The Excitation FE is also responsible for the safety of all employees in the plant by ensuring that all electrical equipment is up to code and safe to use. The Excitation FE will work closely with plant maintenance personnel, maintenance managers and field engineers to ensure that all exciter and LCI related equipment is properly inspected, evaluated, maintained and repaired in a timely manner. This is a full-time field service position, and you must be willing and able to travel frequently throughout the United States to customer locations.
What will you do?•Perform on-site troubleshooting/repair/maintenance of excitation and LCI controls systems.
•Provide expert technical direction to power plant personnel during installation, commissioning and maintenance, or upgrades of excitation/LCI control systems.
•Read and interpret software logic, equipment schematics, and manuals to determine the best course of action for maintenance or installations.
•Support AP4 sales and commercial teams by providing technical guidance on customer sales calls and assisting with proposal development activities.
•Support customers and AP4 peers via remote phone support by offering technical troubleshooting guidance.
•Respond to emergent calls from service manager after hours as required.
•Provide timely and accurate timesheets, travel expenses, and job reports.
•Ability to work alone on customer job sites.
•Work extended hours, and on occasion shift work, as necessary during customer jobs.
•Take ownership of implementing AP4 and customer safety policies while assigned to a customer job.
•All work shall be performed in a safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient manner in accordance with accepted/required electrical practices and guidelines.
•Complete all safety training and other assigned training requirements.
•Extensive travel throughout the United States for field assignments is required.
•Travel to internal company events or industry conferences as required.
•Comply with the policies outlined in AP4’s Employee Handbook.
What do you need to qualify for this role?
•Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
•10+ years of experience as an excitation/LCI controls FE supporting power plants with troubleshooting, maintenance, commissioning, and startup activities.
•Experience in SCT / PPT exciters is not required but preferred.
•Knowledgeable of EX2000, EX2100, EX2100e excitation control systems.
•Knowledgeable of generator protection relays and systems.
•Knowledgeable of the LCI controls systems.
•Strong customer focus and communication skills.
•Team oriented with a strong work ethic.

•Willingness to learn new skills
•Act with a sense of urgency in supporting AP4 customers
•Flexibility and adaptability to changing work demands.
•Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.
