Position Overview:
The Estimating Manager plays a key role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for automation and systems integration projects in the water and wastewater industry. Working as part of a collaborative estimating team and reporting directly to the Vice President of Sales, this role supports the proposal and preconstruction process by analyzing project requirements, developing detailed pricing models, and ensuring consistency and clarity in all estimating deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
•Prepare detailed cost estimates for SCADA, PLC, instrumentation, and process automation projects.
•Analyze drawings, specifications, and RFPs to develop complete and accurate scopes of work.
•Quantify material, labor, subcontract, and equipment costs using internal tools and estimating templates.
•Collaborate with sales, engineering, and project management to ensure alignment on project requirements and customer expectations.
•Request and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to support pricing decisions.
•Contribute to the preparation of proposal packages, including pricing breakdowns, scope clarifications, and value engineering options.
•Maintain organized records of estimates, historical data, and pricing assumptions to support continuous improvement.
•Participate in handoff meetings to support a smooth transition from preconstruction to project delivery.
•Monitor actual project costs post-award to inform estimating accuracy and future project planning.
•Support the development and refinement of standard estimating processes, tools, and documentation.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
•3–6 years of experience in estimating, cost analysis, or project engineering, preferably in the water, wastewater, or industrial automation sectors.
•Ability to interpret technical documents, control system drawings, and construction specifications.
•Proficiency with estimating tools and Microsoft Excel; experience with estimating software is a plus.
•Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
•Working knowledge of SCADA systems, PLCs, instrumentation, and process automation preferred.
•Familiarity with procurement processes, vendor relations, and subcontractor scopes.
Work Environment & Travel:
•Primarily office-based with occasional travel to project sites or client meetings (10%).
•Hybrid work arrangements may be available depending on location and experience.
