Job Description
The Environmental Engineer will be a key member of the Environmental Team at the Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine, reporting to the Environmental Superintendent within the Sustainability & External Relations Department. This position is responsible for leading the engineering, design, and construction of environmental projects that ensure compliance with applicable regulations and support responsible mining practices for SSR Mining’s CC&V operation.
The candidate will assist in the development and implementation of environmental systems including those related to water management, reclamation, air emission controls, wetlands, and waste management. The Environmental Engineer will collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to execute projects aligned with regulatory requirements and company sustainability goals.
Day To Day
- Lead and support engineering design, permitting, and construction of environmental infrastructure and control systems
- Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., Operations, Engineering, Projects, Maintenance) and external consultants to scope, plan, and execute environmental projects.
- Prepare or review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction bid documents in accordance with engineering standards, mine-specific requirements and regulatory commitments.
- Facilitate regulatory permitting and ensure project compliance with CDPHE, DRMS, and other applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and documentation, ensuring timely delivery and cost control.
- Conduct field inspections, construction oversight, and QA/QC for environmental projects during implementation.
- Engage with regulatory agencies as needed to support project execution and environmental compliance.
- Maintain accurate and organized project records and assist in routine compliance reporting activities.
- Manage consultant scope, deliverables, and budgets to support environmental project implementation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 0-5 years of relevant experience, preferably within the mining, environmental, or heavy civil industries
- Foundational knowledge of engineering design principles, environmental regulations, and construction management.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, GIS, Microsoft Project, or project management software is a plus.
- Familiarity with Colorado-specific permitting frameworks is a plus
Working Conditions & Location:
This is a site-based position at the Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine, located in a high-altitude environment (above 8,000 feet), and will require the ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions as needed.
For applicants residing in CO, the salary range for this role is from $80,000 to $100,000 Benefits: 401(k); medical/dental/vision insurance; employee share purchase plan, PTO, STI and LTI.
