What is an Engineering Technician – Electric Operations Engineering?
Central Hudson is seeking an Engineering Technician to join the Electric Operations Engineering team. This Engineering Technician role supports the Electric Operations Team of Engineers in planning, evaluating, designing, modeling, standards, operations, and construction of electric distribution systems and associated facilities.
What does an Engineering Technician – Electric Operations Engineering do?•Circuit Modeling Studies and Improvements: assists with modeling the distribution system using engineering modeling software and performs circuit updates in our Outage Management System in preparation for Distribution Automation; reviews and updates circuit models when topology changes occur; assists with the transition to a fully electronic mapping system.
•Planning: provides an initial review for new business service requests; researches and organizes information to determine if additional engineering analysis is required.
•Provides administrative support for electronic field device updates.
•Reliability: assists with the development of reliability reports; utilizes Microsoft Excel and IBM Cognos to analyze and identify reliability risks and propose recommendations for mitigation.
•Distribution Automation: assists with retrieving information from electronic field devices.
•Emergency Response: provides assistance during electric emergency events (e.g. storm restoration efforts) as necessary including outside of normal business hours
What does it take to be an Engineering Technician – Electric Operations Engineering?
Required
•Associate’s degree in a STEM related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). In lieu of an Associate’s degree, 10 years of electric utility/distribution system experience and industry-specific certifications/credentials will be considered
•Aptitude for mechanical analysis and demonstrated proficiency in math skills
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
•Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
•Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative skills
•Excellent problem-solving skills with innovation in mind
•Flexibility to multitask and operate in a fast-paced environment
•Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind
Preferred
•Field of study in engineering or related field
•Knowledge of and/or experience in the electric and gas utility industry

This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience. Pay Range: $52,900-$128,400
