Summary:

This position ensures design and construction projects align to Columbus Water Works (CWW) standards and programs for water distribution and wastewater collection. This role ensures construction, maintenance, water, and sewer inspections, testing, and acceptance standards are followed on assigned projects. Additionally, this position reviews technical information for planning, document development, field inspection, technical analysis, and preliminary design.

Skills and Requirements:

•

Relevant Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant experience. Combination of relevant education and years of experience may be substituted.

•

Knowledge of practices of construction and civil engineering as applied to a water and wastewater utility.

•

•

Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

•

First aid/ CPR certification, Utility Foreman license/ Competent Person Certification, and Level 1B NPDES permit within 1 year of being in role.

•

Receive and maintain OSHA 10-hour card within 1 year of being in role.

•

The Engineering Department must always have an active professional, either on staff or through a defined consulting agreement, who holds a Professional Engineering registration to act with Delegated Authority in compliance with Georgia EPD.

•

The ability to obtain access to Fort Benning Access is required.

Responsibilities:

•

Reviews drawings and designs to ensure compliance with CWW standards.

•

Ensures construction work is being executed correctly by contractors with the authority to make field changes as needed.

•

Responds to questions and inquiries concerning water and sewer design and related regulations.

•

Evaluates and interprets various types of plans and blueprints in relation to water and sewer design requirements and makes recommendations accordingly.

•

Perform water and sewer inspections, testing, and acceptance.

•

Collaborates with engineers, architects, builders, contractors, developers, and customers providing answers and reviewing various procedures supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

•

Compiles information to produce various departmental reports, documents, material lists, cost estimates, and quotes for various management and customer needs.

•

Observes all safety rules and regulations.

•

Performs surveying as needed for project support.

•

Performs other duties as assigned.

•

Performs other work related to the purpose and vision of Columbus Water Works (CWW) and Departmental goals. Work is reviewed for accuracy, results obtained and consistency.

Physical Demands:

•

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, balance or crawl, use hands and arms, talk, and listen.

•

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.

•

Repetitive movement using equipment is involved.

•

Employee must be able to stand for an extended amount of time at the job site.

•

Employee must be physically able to walk several miles during the day.

•

Employee must be physically able to regularly reach overhead.

•

Employee must regularly lift, carry and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally 25 pounds. Assistance is required on weight amounts above those listed.

Work environment

•

Employee will be regularly exposed to moderate or high noise level, extreme outside weather conditions, uneven, steep, slippery terrain conditions, dusty conditions and wet and/or humid conditions.

•

Employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment operation.

•

Employees will be subject to roadway hazards, i.e. traffic.

•

Employee will be subject to outside hazards, i.e. poison ivy, bees, spiders, dirt, and animals.

•

Employee will be subject to confined areas, i.e. confined spaces, sewer manholes, water vaults, wastewater pits, and/or protected trenches.
