Civil Engineering Technician I
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) is a NETA Accredited Company (NAC), located in Houston, TX that is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
The Civil Engineering Technician I supports civil engineering and construction teams by assisting with the preparation of drawings, field inspections, and documentation for substation, transmission, and utility infrastructure projects. This is an entry-level role ideal for individuals beginning their career in civil engineering, providing hands-on experience in field and office environments.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist in collecting and recording site data, measurements, and survey information.
•Support engineers and field supervisors in the preparation of construction drawings and civil layouts.
•Observe and document on-site construction activities such as grading, concrete placement, trenching, and erosion control.
•Help ensure materials and workmanship conform to specifications and project plans.
•Perform basic drafting tasks using AutoCAD or similar software under the guidance of a civil engineer.
•Maintain accurate project records, logs, and reports.
•Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and suppliers as needed.
•Adhere to all safety standards and participate in job site safety meetings.
•Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
•Associate degree or coursework in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
•2 years of experience in a construction or civil engineering support role (internship or co-op experience a plus).
•Basic understanding of civil construction practices, materials, and terminology.
•Familiarity with CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
•Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
•Willingness to work on active construction sites in varying conditions.
•Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Preferred Experience (Not Required):
•Exposure to substation, T&D line, or utility infrastructure projects.
•Experience with GPS survey tools or GIS software.
