Engineering Intern, Transmission Compliance Team

­Project Description

Xcel Energy is seeking students aspiring to work in the utility industry that can spend the summer in the Denver, CO area to work within the Mega Rule Department. The paid internship provides an opportunity to learn a significant amount about the natural gas utility industry and provide value to the company while gaining skills that can be applied to any career path. Each intern will get the chance to do data analysis, project scoping, review major construction projects for accuracy, and work with multiple departments to gain an outstanding foundation to what work is done in the natural gas utility industry.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Review project closeout packages to ensure adequate quality information has been provided

- Review historic records using Geospatial technology and databases to ensure records gaps are identified and mitigated

- Review and propose best solution to fixing historical record gaps as dictated by federal law

- Review proposed capital projects and ensure that if there is any pipeline material issues that the projects include ways to grab the missing data where opportunistic.

This position is for

June 2026.

These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

- Current student Sophomore, Junior, and Senior status (as of May 2026).

- Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Statistics, or Mathematics.

- Able to commute to the Lipan Distribution Center in Denver, CO.

- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Product Suite, specifically Excel is required

- Coursework including flow of fluids, mechanics of materials preferred

- Statistics course work or prior experience preferred

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.70 to $24.00 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
