Job Summary

The Nuclear Engineering department at Millstone Nuclear Power Station is looking for an Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer. The candidate will fill a position in the Design Engineering Department and will be responsible for the design and implementation of plant modification to electrical and I&C systems. Position(s) will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. This position will include design, evaluation, repair, and construction of plant Protection and Control Systems and Electrical systems. The position requires knowledge of analog and digital control schemes, software quality assurance, and configuration management practices. Experience with the design and performance requirements of motors, relays, breakers, and other components in low and medium voltage systems is highly desirable. Additional duties and abilities will include:

Develop design change packages to provide for engineered plant improvements and solutions to operations and maintenance problems which ensure long-term equipment reliability. This position also requires engagement and intrusiveness with implementing personnel and operations throughout the installation phases.

Prepare/amend/revise calculations in support of station engineering products.

Provide routine technical support for design-related issues in construction, maintenance, and operations which may include the development of engineering technical evaluations and solutions.

Provide technical expertise and engineering leadership in troubleshooting and supporting power plant Programmable Electronic Control Systems (e.g. Distributed Control Systems “DCS” and Programmable Logic Controller systems “PLC” problems, by providing consultation, inspection, programming, testing recommendations, as well as the review of work scopes, bids, and vendor reports.

Provide technical support in the development and review of specifications, work scopes, bids, test procedures, alarm response procedures, commissioning plans, and vendor reports.

Ensure compliance with regulatory, industry, and various program requirements.

Provide technical expertise and support for power generation and auxiliary power systems, particularly related to systems with interface to a Programmable Electronic Control System and including the integration of digital devices and protective relays for electrical power systems.

Perform due diligence for plant acquisition and support for evaluation of control systems for new plant construction.

Provide planned and forced outage support.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Engineer: 2+ years; Sr Engineer: 5+ years; Staff Engineer: 7+ years of relevant engineering experience; Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles; Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines; Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead; Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing); Strong personal computer skills; Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems; Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices; In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.); Equally effective working independently or in team environment; Proven decision making skills; Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks; Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

Experience with digital/cyber is preferable.

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
